Zé das Bengalas (“Walking Stick Joe”) is a craftsman, restorer and salesman specialized in antique walking sticks. He is known for being thoughtful and dedicated to his clients, and for his thorough and singular work. During more than 30 years working in the Sao Paulo antique market, he became specialized in classic walking sticks, becoming a reference in walking sticks of several materials and different periods. This is how José Ferreira do Nascimento became known as Zé das Bengalas (“Walking Stick Joe”). 

His rare occupation generates curiosity in the visitors of the antique fairs in which he participates, and he is frequently consulted by walking stick collectors. Currently, he exhibits his work on Saturdays at the antiques fair in Benedito Calixto square, in Sao Paulo. He has taken part in this fair since its beginning, in the late 80’s, and was also a member of its Organizing Committee. Besides the Benedito Calixto antiques fair, he showcased his work at the most important antique fairs of Sao Paulo, such as the Paulista Antiques Fair, that takes place under the Art Museum of Sao Paulo (MASP), and the Bixiga Fair, also being part of the Antique Association of the State of Sao Paulo (AAESP). 

Zé das Bengalas (“Walking Stick Joe”) also provides consulting and curation services for some of Brazil’s biggest walking sticks collections.
